If Avs GM Joe Sakic is going to make any sort of move, he’s going to have to figure out how to make it cap-compliant.

Writer Mark Knudson argues that the Colorado Avalanche should pursue a trade for suspended Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Drawing comparisons to Colorado's 1995 acquisition of Patrick Roy, Knudson suggests that adding a top netminder like Hellebuyck could serve as the final piece needed for the Avalanche to secure a Stanley Cup championship following recent postseason disappointment.
To navigate NHL salary cap constraints, Knudson proposes a trade package centered around goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood and pending free-agent winger Artturi Lehkonen. Hellebuyck, who is currently holding out over his contract, has seven years remaining on his deal, and Knudson asserts the swap would provide financial flexibility while benefiting both franchises.
