The Blue Jackets crawled back into the game after falling behind 3-0, but fell just short against the Hurricanes on Thursday night.

The Columbus Blue Jackets fell 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Arena in Raleigh, dropping their record to 5-6-0 on the season. Jordan Martinook opened the scoring for Carolina in the first period, while Logan Stankoven and Mark Jankowski added goals to build a 3-0 lead for the Hurricanes early in the third period against Columbus goaltender Jet Greaves.
Columbus mounted a third-period comeback attempt with goals from Denton Mateychuk and Kent Johnson. Despite the late push against Carolina netminder Pyotr Kochetkov, the Blue Jackets were unable to score an equalizer before the final buzzer sounded.
