With the rumors that the Columbus Blue Jackets are shopping Dmitri Voronkov, we thought we'd go ahead and rip the band-aid off and start looking at possible teams to trade him to and the returns.
Following reports that the Columbus Blue Jackets are making forward Dmitri Voronkov available for trade, The Hockey News proposed a potential deal with the St. Louis Blues. Under the hypothetical scenario, Columbus would send Voronkov to St. Louis in exchange for forward Alexey Toropchenko and a 2027 second-round draft pick. Voronkov, carrying a $4.175 million cap hit, has managed two points this season.
The writer argues that Toropchenko fits head coach Rick Bowness's structured defensive approach better than Voronkov. The proposed transaction would also clear approximately $1.67 million in cap space for Columbus general manager Don Waddell, while granting St. Louis a middle-six forward with scoring upside.
