It had to get done, and the Adam Fantilli extension is a win for both him and the Blue Jackets. Our Ed Francis explains why the wait was worth it.
Center Adam Fantilli signed a six-year, $82.5 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on September 24, 2026. The agreement ended months of negotiations that caused the 21-year-old forward to miss the start of Columbus' training camp and multiple preseason games. The deal carries an average annual value of $13.75 million.
Columbus President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell noted that the club pushed for a six-year term to secure two years of Fantilli's unrestricted free agent status. The agreement places Fantilli among the NHL's highest-paid players this season and closely mirrors Cutter Gauthier's recent contract with the Anaheim Ducks.
