Dallas Stars pending UFA Jason Robertson would like to extend, but he may not be in a rush, as he wouldn't have any trade protection until July.

Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson would not receive any no-trade protection until July 1 if he signs an early contract extension, according to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun. Dallas general manager Jim Nill intends to open extension discussions with the pending unrestricted free agent in mid-to-late December, though Robertson is not eligible to officially sign until January 1.
Robertson is currently playing on a one-year, $12 million contract. The Stars are reportedly aware that an extension will cost more than Mikko Rantanen's $12 million average annual salary, and negotiations are expected to potentially stretch throughout the remainder of the season.
