Stars Trade Pitch Swaps Jason Robertson for Nikita Kucherov

Adam Martin of Heavy proposes a blockbuster one-for-one trade pitch swapping Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson for Tampa Bay Lightning star Nikita Kucherov. The proposal comes after NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Kucherov will not re-sign with Tampa Bay ahead of unrestricted free agency next summer and prefers to be traded. Martin argues a swap would allow both Stanley Cup contenders to avoid losing their impending free agents for nothing.

Under the proposed permanent deal, Dallas would move Robertson and his expiring $12 million contract, while Tampa Bay would send Kucherov and his expiring $9.5 million deal. Neither player would receive a guaranteed contract extension as part of the hypothetical trade, serving instead as an audition period for both superstars with their potential new teams.
