The Connor Hellebuyck trade highlighted what the New Jersey Devils could have paid for Dylan Larkin.

Writer Nestor Quixtan argues that the Detroit Red Wings missed a major opportunity to trade captain Dylan Larkin to the New Jersey Devils. Following the Devils' acquisition of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets, Quixtan asserts that New Jersey's willingness to surrender significant assets highlights the potential return Detroit could have commanded for Larkin before the market closed.
The Devils sent forward Dawson Mercer, center Nick Bjugstad, prospect Alexander Command, goaltender Nico Daws, and two draft picks to Winnipeg. Quixtan contends that Detroit could have utilized a comparable package of young talent and draft capital to accelerate their roster retooling instead of letting the trade window slip away.
