Former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg expressed strong disapproval over how the franchise handled Steve Yzerman's departure as general manager. Speaking to Swedish outlet Expressen, Zetterberg labeled the situation brutal and stated that he believed the decision to oust Yzerman after seven seasons was wrong. Yzerman stepped down in mid-July, shortly after forward Dylan Larkin submitted a trade request.
Zetterberg revealed that he has declined previous offers to work within the Red Wings organization and currently serves in management for Swedish team Timra. While noting he keeps in contact with former teammates currently working for Detroit, Zetterberg declined to specify internal details regarding Yzerman's exit.
