Octopus Thrower's Jake Rivard argues that the Detroit Red Wings must find a more suitable defensive partner for rookie Anton Johansson. Johansson has recorded one goal and three assists through 16 games while skating an average of 13:48 per night. Rivard contends that pairing him with waiver claim Andreas Englund limits the rookie's offensive upside.

Rivard suggests newly recalled defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker as an immediate bottom-pairing upgrade who would allow Johansson to play with more offensive freedom. The piece highlights that Detroit faces upcoming roster choices once Simon Edvinsson's situation is settled and Albert Johansson returns to health.
