A Red Wings trade proposal would send Simon Edvinsson out of Detroit in exchange for a $9 million elite defenseman. Here's it could work.

A trade proposal published via PuckGM suggests the Detroit Red Wings could acquire defenseman Quinn Hughes and forward Yakov Trenin from the Minnesota Wild. In exchange, Detroit would send unsigned holdout defenseman Simon Edvinsson, center Nate Danielson, and a 2028 first-round draft pick to Minnesota.
Edvinsson remains unsigned and must finalize a contract by December 1 to play this season, reportedly seeking over $10 million annually. Hughes carries a $7.85 million cap hit through 2026-27, and while Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff previously stated zero interest in trading Edvinsson, the proposal addresses Detroit's holdout standoff.
