Sometimes, life-changing opportunities come when you least expect them.

Dylan Garand recorded his first career NHL shutout on Friday night, making 22 saves to lead the New York Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The 24-year-old goaltender became the eighth rookie goalie in franchise history to earn a shutout in four or fewer career games.
The performance capped a turbulent week for Garand, who was initially placed on waivers and assigned to the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack before being recalled following an injury to backup Joonas Korpisalo. Rangers coach Mike Sullivan praised Garand's resilience and character after seizing the unexpected starting opportunity.
