Seravalli predicts McDavid won’t sign extension with Oilers next summer

NHL insider Frank Seravalli predicted in a Sportsnet article that Connor McDavid will not sign a contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers when he becomes eligible next summer. According to Seravalli, the Oilers captain would instead play out the final year of his two-year deal worth an average annual value of $12.5 million.

Seravalli also reported his belief that if McDavid decides to depart Edmonton, he would not leave via a traditional trade. Instead, Seravalli envisions a minor sign-and-trade involving his negotiating rights, similar to Mitch Marner, to avoid weakening his future destination.
