Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice dismissed social media rumors on Monday suggesting captain Sasha Barkov will miss several months. Speaking after practice in Los Angeles, Maurice stated that Barkov is undergoing medical testing in South Florida and labeled a reported 10 to 12 week recovery timeline as pure speculation.
Barkov sustained an apparent left knee injury during Florida's second game of the season on Thursday. The Panthers placed Barkov on long-term injured reserve on Saturday, meaning he must miss at least 10 games and 24 days before becoming eligible to return on October 27.
