On Friday, the Connor Hellebuyck saga came to an end when the New Jersey Devils made a blockbuster move. The Florida Panthers were involved in trade discussions in the summer, and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed what the Panthers were…

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Florida Panthers previously attempted to acquire goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets. According to Friedman on the Kyper and Bourne show, Florida's trade offer included Evan Rodrigues, Eetu Luostarinen, and draft picks. However, discussions collapsed when Winnipeg demanded center Anton Lundell, a condition Florida refused to meet.
Hellebuyck was ultimately traded to the New Jersey Devils in a blockbuster five-team deal after sitting out the start of the 2026-27 season. Florida instead pivoted by trading Rodrigues to New Jersey for Jacob Markstrom and utilizing their draft capital in a trade for Brady Tkachuk.
