Revisiting the Sabres & Panthers’ Sam Reinhart Trade

The Hockey Writers revisits the July 24, 2021 trade between the Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres that sent winger Sam Reinhart to Florida for a first-round pick and goaltender Devon Levi. Dylan Gremont argues the trade transformed Florida's core, helping them win two Stanley Cup championships behind Reinhart's elite two-way production, including a career-high 57-goal campaign.

In exchange, Buffalo drafted forward Jiri Kulich with the 28th overall pick in 2022, while Levi appeared in 39 games before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers. Gremont concludes that the deal substantially elevated Reinhart's career and delivered championship success to Florida, while Buffalo gained developing young assets.
