The veteran coach is starting to get on his players after a sluggish start to the 2026-27 season.

Analysts on Daily Faceoff LIVE questioned whether Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness is being overly harsh on his team early in the 2026-27 NHL season. The Blue Jackets have struggled to a 3-5-0 record through eight games, leaving them with the fewest points in the Eastern Conference. Bowness has publicly criticized his players for early-season miscues and poor results following a campaign in which Columbus missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
During a discussion, analysts Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton argued that Bowness risks losing the locker room by criticizing players so intensely just eight games into an 84-game schedule. Hutton noted from personal experience that constant criticism can fall on deaf ears among modern professional athletes.
