The New York Islanders announced recovery timelines for forwards Calum Ritchie and Matias Maccelli following lower-body injuries sustained against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ritchie will miss four to six weeks, while Maccelli is sidelined for two to four weeks. In response, the Islanders placed defenseman Alexander Romanov on injured reserve and recalled Mitchell Chaffee on an emergency basis.
The injuries further test the Islanders' offense, which has already played without center Mathew Barzal. Through eight games this season, Ritchie recorded two points centering the second line, while Maccelli tallied two goals and six points. Chaffee joins the roster after producing six points in six AHL games with the Hamilton Hammers.
