The Seattle Kraken and Nashville Predators teamed up for a one-for-one swap of underperforming forwards on Sunday evening, with Shane Wright going from Washington state to Tennessee, and Matthew Wood heading the other way. It’s an intriguing change of scenery…

Seattle Kraken general manager Jason Botterill explained the decision to acquire forward Matthew Wood from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shane Wright. Botterill highlighted Wood's hockey sense, reach, and shot quality as key attributes that will benefit the Kraken. The permanent trade, executed late Sunday night, sends Wright to Nashville after months of speculation about him needing a change of scenery.
Wood, a 21-year-old first-round draft pick in 2023, recorded 30 points across 71 games in his rookie 2025-26 campaign. However, he struggled to start the 2026-27 season, managing three points in 14 games prior to the trade. He is projected to join Seattle's third line and could make his debut against the Calgary Flames.
