It’s been nearly a year and a half since the Los Angeles Kings and general manager Rob Blake mutually agreed to part ways after the team’s fourth consecutive first-round playoff exit to the Edmonton Oilers.
Former Los Angeles Kings general manager Rob Blake parted ways with the franchise nearly a year and a half ago, but his roster moves continue to influence the organization. The Lead argues that despite significant mistakes, Blake built a lasting foundation through key draft selections like Quinton Byfield, Alex Laferriere, and Brandt Clarke, alongside acquisitions such as Trevor Moore, Kevin Fiala, and Darcy Kuemper.
While trading Gabriel Vilardi and Alex Iafallo for Pierre-Luc Dubois proved costly, Blake mitigated the damage by dealing Dubois for Kuemper, who went on to become a Vezina Trophy finalist. The Lead notes that young core players like Byfield, Clarke, and Mikey Anderson are locked into long-term contracts through at least 2028-29, which will prove crucial as Los Angeles manages one of the NHL's oldest rosters.
