Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber has a long ways to go, but took a positive step toward his return after being cleared to start skating.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber has been cleared to begin skating in a few days following surgery for a fractured skull, according to reporting from Michael Russo. Faber suffered the injury during a preseason contest against the Dallas Stars on September 25 when he was struck by a puck near his ear. Although there is no official timetable for his full return, getting back on the ice represents a significant step in his recovery protocol.
The Wild have performed strongly during Faber's absence, compiling a 9-3-2 record behind goaltender Jesper Wallstedt to contend near the top of the Western Conference. Despite the positive skating milestone, Faber may still face strict physical restrictions as he gradually ramps up his workload, meaning fans will need to remain patient before seeing the 24-year-old blueliner back in game action.
