The Minnesota Wild could take a page from what the Carolina Hurricanes did with Mikko Rantanen and do the same with Quinn Hughes.

The Minnesota Wild could explore trading defenseman Quinn Hughes if contract extension uncertainty persists, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. Speaking on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman compared the situation to how the Carolina Hurricanes handled Mikko Rantanen by trading him to adapt their championship pursuit. The Wild are reportedly motivated to maximize their contention window while pursuing their first Stanley Cup Final appearance.
However, Friedman cautioned that trading Hughes presents greater difficulties than the Rantanen deal because elite defensemen of Hughes' caliber lack direct comparables in the NHL. Heavy reports that Wild general manager Bill Guerin is operating with an all-in mindset, though determining the trade value and proper timing for any potential deal remains a significant challenge for the franchise.
