Minnesota risks losing a former top prospect as roster cuts intensify. Other NHL teams now have a 24-hour window to claim the physical defenseman before his Iowa assignment.
The Minnesota Wild have placed 23-year-old defenseman Carson Lambos on waivers as they reduce their roster ahead of the regular season. Selected 26th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, Lambos is no longer waiver-exempt, opening a 24-hour window for the NHL's other 31 teams to claim him.
If Lambos clears waivers unclaimed, Minnesota plans to assign him to the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild, where he spent the past three seasons. Wild head coach John Hynes praised Lambos' skating, competitiveness, and defensive ability during training camp while noting ongoing development in his puck play.
