It turns out that the Habs could do just fine without their captain for another week. Montreal capped off their road trip with two more wins, then returned home for a strange but successful victory over Pittsburgh…

The Montreal Canadiens concluded October on a five-game winning streak following consecutive victories over St. Louis, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. Despite playing without their injured captain Nick Suzuki, Montreal defeated the Blues 2-0, beat the Stars 5-2, and held off the Penguins 5-4. Rookie goaltender Jacob Fowler set a franchise rookie record with 46 saves against St. Louis and was named NHL Rookie of the Month.
Brian La Rose notes that Montreal faces looming roster decisions with Samuel Montembeault returning to practice, suggesting the Canadiens may temporarily carry three goalies. Meanwhile, defenseman Mike Matheson will miss approximately two weeks due to a lower-body injury suffered against the Blues, while Lane Hutson set a franchise record for career assists before age 23.
