According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Montreal Canadiens have turned their attention to Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin after missing out on Kirill Marchenko. Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is reportedly looking to make a major move for a top-six center before the trade deadline. However, Larkin holds a no-trade clause and Montreal is not currently on his list of approved destinations.
Larkin reportedly requested a trade in June following Detroit's prolonged playoff drought, carrying an $8.7 million salary cap hit. The writer, Lori Bennett, notes that while Montreal possesses the assets to satisfy Detroit's asking price, any trade hinges on convincing Larkin to waive his no-trade protection to join the Canadiens.
