The Devils trade goalie Rémi Poirier to the Capitals for Washington’s 2027 seventh-round pick, leaving Connor Hellebuyck & Jake Allen in net.

The New Jersey Devils traded goaltender Rémi Poirier to the Washington Capitals on Sunday in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round draft pick. Devils general manager Sunny Mehta completed the permanent deal for the 25-year-old netminder, who was originally claimed off waivers from the Dallas Stars on Sept. 27 and did not make an NHL appearance for New Jersey.
The trade leaves Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Allen on the Devils' NHL roster, with David Rittich serving as a recall option. Moving Poirier's $850,000 cap hit reduces New Jersey's standard contracts to 42 and increases the team's available salary cap space to approximately $974,339.
