The New Jersey Devils put Stefan Noesen on waivers Thursday. It’s somewhere in the middle of unsurprising and surprising. He’s…

The New Jersey Devils placed forward Stefan Noesen on waivers on Thursday after failing to find a trade partner. If he clears waivers, New Jersey can reassign him to the AHL Utica Comets and bury $1.225 million of his $2.75 million contract. Noesen appeared in two of the Devils' first three games this season, averaging 7:24 of ice time after being limited to 38 games in 2025-26 due to a knee injury.
James Nichols highlights four NHL clubs with the salary cap space to potentially claim Noesen: the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, Seattle Kraken, and Detroit Red Wings. While claiming him requires absorbing his full $2.75 million cap hit, the writer notes that teams like the Islanders could use the move strategically alongside LTIR relief, while others could leverage his veteran depth before his contract expires in July.
