With blue-line injuries mounting, the veteran defenseman secures a roster spot to bolster a depleted defensive corps ahead of a crucial matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The New York Islanders have signed veteran defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year deal following a brief Professional Tryout stint. Hutton originally joined the team on a PTO on Sunday before officially earning his roster spot ahead of a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The signing bolsters an Islanders defense dealing with multiple significant injuries. Defenseman Ryan Pulock is sidelined for two to four weeks with an upper-body injury, while Alexander Romanov is out for the regular season and potentially the playoffs after tearing his ACL on Oct. 7.
