The New York Islanders are nine games into the season, riding a four-game point streak, and beginning to find their identity under Pete DeBoer. But one question…

New York Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche provided an update on star forward Mathew Barzal, stating there remains no timetable for his return. Barzal has been skating while dealing with inflammation in his surgically repaired left knee, with Darche noting the team is working on getting his strength and comfort level back.
Eyes On Isles writer Jiggs Westfall highlights growing concern regarding the ongoing lack of a clear timeline for Barzal. The forward previously had surgery following an injury in February 2025, played 81 games last season, but was sidelined at training camp after failing medical testing due to knee inflammation.
