The Devils scored four times in the second period, chasing Dylan Garand, and Pavel Dorofeyev’s power-play goal was the lone bright spot in the first Hudson River Rivalry game.
The New York Rangers suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat against the New Jersey Devils in their first Hudson River Rivalry meeting of the season. Following a scoreless opening period, an unforced turnover by J.T. Miller led directly to Evan Rodrigues scoring with under 30 seconds left in the frame. The Devils capitalized on the momentum, netting four times in the second period and eventually forcing Rangers goaltender Dylan Garand out of the game.
Luke Hughes added two goals for New Jersey, with Nico Hischier, Arseny Gritsyuk, Stefan Noesen, and Cody Glass also finding the net. The Rangers broke Nico Daws' shutout bid when Pavel Dorofeyev scored on the power play from an Adam Fox redirect. Spencer Martin took over in goal for Garand, while Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere received a 10-minute misconduct in the third period as New Jersey comfortably secured the division victory.
