The Ottawa Senators could be going without a key top-six forward for some time, as winger William Eklund left the team’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers against the Philadelphia Flyers during the first period with a lower-body injury.
Ottawa Senators winger William Eklund exited Thursday night's home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers during the first period due to a lower-body injury. The injury occurred under eight minutes into the contest when Flyers defenseman Simon Benoit finished a check on Eklund along the boards. Eklund was unable to put any weight on his leg as he left the ice.
Eklund joined Ottawa during the offseason after being acquired from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the No. 9 overall draft pick. Operating on the top line alongside Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson, the Swedish forward had recorded two points across three appearances prior to the injury.
