Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet called his team's third-period collapse "inexcusable" following a 3-2 road loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Philadelphia had built a 2-1 lead with second-period goals from Simon Benoit and Noel Acciari after Gabe Perreault opened the scoring for New York. However, the Rangers rallied late in the third period with a power-play goal from Pavel Dorofeyev and a breakaway winner from Tye Kartye.
Tocchet criticized the Flyers for failing to protect the middle of the ice and not converting chances when leading. Teammates Travis Sanheim and Noel Acciari agreed that the squad played on its heels during New York's late push. The defeat dropped Philadelphia's record to 4-10-4 overall and opened their five-game road trip ahead of their next contest against Calgary.
