The Flyers' power play has been miserable forever. But now they might finally have the talent, and the structure, to change that.
The Philadelphia Flyers are working to improve their power play during training camp under head coach Rick Tocchet. During a practice session on Wednesday, the team utilized a top power-play unit consisting of Matvei Michkov, Tyson Foerster, Trevor Zegras, Porter Martone, and Jamie Drysdale. The unit demonstrated improved puck movement and generated clean scoring opportunities.
To address longstanding power-play struggles, assistant coaches Jaroslav Svejkovsky and Jay Varady provided players with summer study tape of top NHL players. Coach Tocchet emphasized that consistency and connection are the primary keys to developing a successful power-play structure.
