Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Anthony Mantha faces potential discipline from the NHL Department of Player Safety following a dirty hit during Monday's game against the Ottawa Senators. Now playing for the New Jersey Devils, Mantha was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct after checking Ottawa defenseman Nikolas Matinpalo into the boards from behind. Matinpalo suffered an upper-body injury and left the contest.
The ejection automatically triggers a league review for Mantha, who has yet to be suspended in his NHL career. Mantha joined the Devils on a two-year contract after tallying a career-high 33 goals with Pittsburgh last season, but he has failed to register a point across his first four games with New Jersey.
