The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Saturday that they have placed forward David Gustafsson on waivers with a non-roster designation. The transaction was made to clear a roster spot after the club activated center Ben Kindel from injured reserve and welcomed Andrei Kuzmenko back from personal leave ahead of a matchup against Montreal.
Gustafsson was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets during the offseason in exchange for defenseman Jack St. Ivany and signed a one-year, two-way contract. Despite making the opening roster, the 26-year-old was waived without appearing in a single game for Pittsburgh, and he will report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins if he clears waivers.
