The Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly adjusting trade discussions around a cash-conscious internal budget under new ownership by the Hoffmann family. Following a 3-6-1 start to the season, general manager Kyle Dubas has indicated a willingness to trade veteran forwards to clear space for developing prospects while navigating major payroll commitments exceeding $100 million for the 2026-27 campaign.
Potential trade candidates include Andrei Kuzmenko, Rickard Rakell, Bryan Rust, and Justin Brazeau, alongside defenseman Erik Karlsson. Dubas aims to integrate top youth such as Rutger McGroarty, Benjamin Kindel, and Sergei Murashov into the NHL lineup.
