Former San Jose Sharks forward Nico Sturm appears to have avoided the worst with a scary injury that required him to be hospitalized on Monday night.

Former San Jose Sharks forward Nico Sturm was hospitalized and subsequently placed on injured reserve after suffering a head injury on Monday night. Sturm was struck in the side of the head by a puck taken from the faceoff circle during a matchup between the Minnesota Wild and the Vegas Golden Knights, leaving him knocked to the ground.
Sturm left the ice, did not return to the game, and currently has no specified recovery timeline. The incident follows a similar preseason injury suffered by Wild teammate Brock Faber and has renewed discussions regarding the implementation of protective ear guards.
