Sharks’ Will Smith Gets $80 Million Contract Update

San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith could command an extension exceeding $80 million, according to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Smith is in the final season of his three-year entry-level contract and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1. Pagnotta reported that Smith's next deal is expected to feature an average annual value of more than $10 million.

Pagnotta noted that comparable contracts, such as Adam Fantilli's six-year, $82.5 million deal with Columbus and Cutter Gauthier's six-year, $81 million deal with Anaheim, set a strong market precedent. Smith was drafted fourth overall in 2023 and recorded 45 points in 2024-25 followed by 59 points in 2025-26 for San Jose.
