Why has Dalibor Dvorský’s ice time dried up? Blues coach Jim Montgomery explains
Key Things to Know
  • Blues coach Jim Montgomery explained that Dalibor Dvorský's reduced ice time stems from lineup shifts and needed offensive strides.
  • Dvorský's ice time has fallen to an average of 12:21 per game following the offseason acquisition of Mason McTavish.
  • The 2023 first-round draft pick also lost his place on the Blues' second power-play unit to Jonatan Berggren.
The Story in 60 Seconds

St. Louis Blues head coach Jim Montgomery explained that center Dalibor Dvorský’s reduced ice time is due to Mason McTavish's arrival and a need for offensive development. Following McTavish's acquisition from Anaheim, Dvorský shifted to third-line center, averaging 12:21 of ice time through nine games, below the staff's targeted 13 to 15 minutes.

Montgomery noted that while Dvorský has improved defensively, coaches want him to drive play through the middle and display more confidence in possession. Dvorský, who also recently lost his spot on the second power-play unit to Jonatan Berggren, acknowledged the need to generate more offense to earn back his minutes.
