The Tampa Bay Lightning have assigned 24-year-old forward Dominic James to their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. James has not appeared for Tampa Bay yet this season after suffering an offseason hand fracture that sidelined him throughout training camp. Because James is exempt from waivers, the assignment allows him to regain game conditioning in the minors before a potential NHL return.
Lightning assistant coach Rob Zettler confirmed the reassignment is intended to get James up to speed following his missed training camp. Last season, James recorded seven goals and 15 points across 43 games for Tampa Bay, while also posting five points in four games with Syracuse. He is currently in the final season of a two-year contract.
