Nikita Kucherov has reportedly requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning and informed general manager Julien BriseBois that he will not re-sign with the team. Insiders have linked the star winger to the Montreal Canadiens as a potential trade destination, citing past praise Kucherov offered about Montreal's style of play.
Negotiations broke down after Kucherov was reportedly dissatisfied with a four-year, $15 million per year extension offer from Tampa Bay. Although the Canadiens are actively seeking a top-six forward, analysts note that the Lightning are unlikely to trade Kucherov to an Atlantic Division rival.
