Nikita Kucherov has informed the Tampa Bay Lightning that he will not sign a contract extension and has requested a trade. The 33-year-old forward conveyed his decision to teammates and later met with general manager Julien BriseBois, head coach Jon Cooper, and agent Dan Milstein to officially state his intentions.
Kucherov is currently in the final season of an eight-year contract carrying a $9.5 million annual average value and possesses a 10-team trade approval list. Despite the pending trade request, reports indicate the Lightning offered a four-year extension worth $15 million annually, and Kucherov plans to continue playing for the team until a trade is finalized.
