Moritz Seider was born in Zell, Germany on April sixth, 2001. Seider played youth hockey for EHC Erfurt’s U16 team during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons as a 13 and 14 year-old.
This player profile examines Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider, detailing his development from German youth hockey to NHL stardom. Selected sixth overall by former general manager Steve Yzerman in 2019, Seider made an immediate impact by recording two assists in his NHL debut against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He played all 82 games in 2021-22 to capture the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year.
Seider signed a seven-year, $59.85 million contract with the Red Wings in September 2024. Following former captain Dylan Larkin's offseason trade request and subsequent loss of captaincy, speculation has emerged regarding Seider potentially becoming Detroit's next captain.
