It might not be reflected in recent results, but the Vancouver Canucks believe they are finally heading in the right direction.

The Vancouver Canucks maintain they are making progress under head coach Manny Malhotra despite suffering a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. With the defeat, Vancouver has won just one of its last 13 games to fall to 3-12-1 on the season. Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Teddy Blueger, and Zack MacEwen scored for Toronto, while Brock Boeser and Max Sasson tallied for the Canucks.
Vancouver has emphasized defensive improvements, noting that six of their last eight defeats have been by two goals or fewer. Goaltender Leevi Merilainen made 24 saves for the Canucks, while Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz stopped 26 shots and recorded an assist to help Toronto improve to 8-6-2.
