Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury, the NHL club said Thursday.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Chris Tanev is listed as out week-to-week after sustaining an upper-body injury. The team announced the update on Thursday after originally placing the 36-year-old on injured reserve on Monday. Tanev was injured on Saturday during the first period of Toronto's 6-3 victory against the Colorado Avalanche after skating five shifts.
Head coach Jim Hiller noted that he is comfortable with his active defensive group but emphasized that forwards must help reduce defensive breakdowns. Tanev has recorded one assist in six games this season, following an injury-shortened previous campaign where he was limited to 11 appearances. Toronto enters its Thursday game against the Buffalo Sabres with a 3-3-1 record.
