Toronto Maple Leafs fans should be happy John Chayka kept his head on his shoulders and sat out the Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes.

Nestor Quixtan of Editor In Leaf argues that the Toronto Maple Leafs made the right decision by staying out of the trade sweepstakes for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The New Jersey Devils recently acquired Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets in a package that included six total assets, notably forward Dawson Mercer, prospect Alexander Command, and goaltender Nico Daws.
Quixtan contends that matching New Jersey's offer would have severely depleted Toronto's future assets. To complete a similar deal, the writer suggests the Maple Leafs would likely have had to surrender key young talent such as Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, and goaltending prospect Artur Akhtyamov.
