Four forgettable periods for the Maple Leafs and three straight losses have tempered their early October enthusiasm.

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 4-1 defeat to the New York Islanders on Saturday, marking their third consecutive loss and moving their early season record to 3-4-2. The Toronto Sun reports that forwards Auston Matthews and William Nylander were limited to one shot each as the team struggled with 20 giveaways against the Islanders' defense under head coach Jim Hiller.
Despite the team's struggles, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky received praise from teammates after making crucial saves, though he remains winless at home with a 1-3-2 record. Toronto played without second-line center John Tavares, who faces an absence of one to several weeks due to a lower-body injury, while Colton Sissons scored the lone goal for the Leafs.
