The Maple Leafs have a hole on defence, and a former player might be the answer. A trade pitch article by Cole Shelton of Heavy.com suggests that the Leafs bring back one of their former blueliners, giving up a player…
A trade proposal suggests the Toronto Maple Leafs reacquire defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin from the Nashville Predators to reinforce their blue line following an injury to Chris Tanev. The pitch, originally proposed by Cole Shelton of Heavy.com, suggests Toronto trade forward Miles Wood to Nashville in a permanent player swap. With Tanev listed as week-to-week, Toronto general manager John Chayka is reportedly contacting other teams to evaluate potential defensive additions.
Lyubushkin has not played for Nashville this season and is in the final year of a three-year, $9.75 million contract. Wood is currently in the AHL during the fourth year of a six-year, $15 million deal. Sportsnet analyst Justin Bourne noted that Toronto's offensive depth allows them to prioritize steady depth defenders rather than seeking an expensive replacement.
