Capitals’ Andrew Cristall fined for cross-checking Flyers’ Hunter McDonald

The NHL announced on Tuesday that Washington Capitals forward Andrew Cristall was fined $2,250.86, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Philadelphia Flyers forward Hunter McDonald. The incident occurred during Monday's preseason game in Hershey, Pennsylvania, after McDonald collided with Capitals player Ryan Leonard during the second period.

Cristall was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a 10-minute game misconduct for the altercation, though Washington went on to defeat Philadelphia 5-2. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery acknowledged Cristall's intent to defend a teammate while noting the play put the team shorthanded.
