The Washington Capitals have acquired 25-year-old goaltender Remi Poirier in a trade with the New Jersey Devils. While the article initially notes a fourth-round pick, the Devils' official announcement confirmed they received a 2027 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Poirier. The trade was officially announced on Sunday morning.
Poirier was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2020 before New Jersey claimed him off waivers in September. He has spent the last four seasons in the AHL with the Texas Stars and has not yet made his NHL debut. Writer Billy Heyen suggests Poirier is likely to report to the AHL's Hershey Bears to add depth behind Washington's NHL tandem of Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren.
