Washington Capitals veteran forward Tom Wilson will likely have the NHL throw the book at him following another egregious play.

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson faces likely NHL discipline following an illegal hit on Florida Panthers defenseman Sandis Vilmanis on Saturday. The incident occurred in the first period of Washington's 4-3 win, earning Wilson a five-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct. Vilmanis left the contest and did not return, while insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the NHL's Department of Player Safety is reviewing the play.
Nestor Quixtan argues that Wilson's extensive history as a repeat offender will likely lead to a substantial suspension under the collective bargaining agreement. Wilson has served six career suspensions, including a 14-game ban in 2018. Quixtan notes that Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery faces significant lineup adjustments if Washington loses Wilson's physical presence for an extended stretch.
